Una

This is a representation of evolution, transmission, and reincarnation.

It embodies the idea that despite the diversity of living beings on the planet—oak trees, wild boars, humans ect.—we are all part of one single life. Evolution is essentially a single life that continuously reshuffles genes and elements, taking on different shapes and forms over time.

The sculpture is a cross-section of this process. At its core are different species of plants grafted together, symbolising the evolution of species and the transmission of genes. Surrounding this core is a single, hollowed-out branch, signifying that despite the diversity of species, they are all part of one single life.

Further outwards, there are small clay masks. These masks illustrate how this single life manifests itself in different forms. Whether it is a bison, a human, or fungi, these forms are merely masks behind which lies one singular life.

This sculpture is made out of sycamore, maple and hazel wood and it was inspired by the work of the philosopher Emmanuele Coccia.
